What is the difference between a single origin and a blend ?

A single origin coffee comes from just one country. Some single origin coffees can come from just one farm but coffees that come from a single farm are mostly called micro-lots. In most coffee producing countries  the coffee is brought to a single processing plant where coffees are sold before being exported. The price paid for the coffee is based on the quality of the beans.  If a coffee is identified as a single origin it means all the coffee in that bag is from the country identified.

Coffee is often blended to give a more balanced flavor in the cup. We like to tell customers that a good coffee blend is like a good marriage. It highlights the strengths of each single origin coffee. For instance, Sumatra coffee by itself might be too bold for some but if it is blended with the light body and natural sweetness of Peru it makes for a delicious morning  cup of coffee.
